One of India’s most famous beaches, where the sound of the coconut palm trees waving in the wind and the rolling ocean waves make for a very relaxing background music, provides the backdrop for a very special hotel – “The Leela Kempinski Kovalam Beach Kerala“. Perched on a rock-face above the sea, its three terraced wings afford breathtaking views of the shoreline of the popular resort of Kovalam. The interior design of the 5-star luxury hotel is a successful marriage of traditional Indian flair and modern appointments. This also applies to the bathrooms, where GROHE faucets combine traditional design with modern technology.

The philosophy of “The Leela” in Kovalam, which continues to attract celebrities from all over the world, is quite simple: The hotel wants to offer its guests an out-of-this-world experience. This approach is not least supported by the architecture of the building. Separate wings provide an impression of lightness and intimacy. The infinity pools seem to merge into the horizon. Lush gardens add to the special aesthetics of the outdoor areas. For the interior design, architect Jebin Zacharia opted for an unique mix of local Kerala style and ultramodern ambience, which is reflected, for instance, in the elegant beachside restaurant with rustic rattan chairs and straw roof and the modern open-air lounge-style bar.

This intriguing mix can also be found in the rooms and suites. The decor is traditional, with wooden furniture, terracotta floors and accessories in warm colours, complemented by modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs and designer lamps. The bathrooms are an exercise in luxury. Granite floors and shelves, wooden accessories and unframed glass shower cubicles make for a relaxed bathroom atmosphere. As a special highlight, some rooms feature open-air bathrooms with sunken bathtubs.

The overall concept of the hotel, which builds a bridge between tradition and modernity, has been followed down to the last detail, including the bathroom fittings. The designers chose GROHE products, Sinfonia for the wash basins and Rainshower® for the showers, for all rooms and suites. With its traditional cross handles, which feature white inlays saying “Hot“ and “Cold“, Sinfonia ideally matches the traditional, elegant bathroom interior, while Rainshower® adds a more modern touch to the shower. The product is not only a visual highlight but also allows guests to enjoy a tropical rain shower even during the dry season.

“In advising this customer we attached importance to offering faucets which combine timeless design with advanced technology,” says Vinod Kumar, Project Manager at GROHE India. “The two products eventually specified for this fine hotel blend in perfectly with the overall concept of the Leela Kovalam, as they reflect its underlying philosophy even in the last detail.”

Thanks to its special flair, the unique location and the many amenities found throughout the hotel, the “Leela” in Kovalam allows its guests to discover a new world – an inspiring, relaxing world that makes you forget the stress of every day life from the moment you enter it.
